I propose that the ghosts in the machines are human influences on technologies; those influences that affect (haunt) reality and how we see the world. These ghosts are the ideas, re-imaginings, artifacts, reflections, code from people throughout history. These people may have outlived their human form but continue to pass on their knowledge and information through the body of machines. The internet is the largest database of collected knowledge which now houses many of these ghosts. Their programs, code, and information change the way humans interact with computer-based technologies.
